UPDATED: Friday, August 18, 2017
Starting on Tuesday, July 25, through Friday, August 25 September, Brooks Avenue will be closed to both vehicular and pedestrian traffic at the intersection of Hillsborough Street. The closure is required while contractors install several of the underground utilities, including water and sanitary sewer. They will also install storm drains and complete grading operations to reconfigure the intersection for the new roundabout and install the new curb and gutter.
The NC State Brooks parking lot and The State Employees Federal Credit Union Parking lot will remain open while the Brooks Avenue work is being completed, but is only accessible from the Clark Avenue side of Brooks Avenue.
Vehicles needing to enter Brooks Avenue from Hillsborough Street are detoured to Enterprise Street to Clark Avenue to Brooks Avenue. The pedestrian detour from the Brooks parking lot is right on Brooks to Vanderbilt Avenue to Gardner Street to Hillsborough Street. For safety reasons we strongly encourage pedestrians to use the detour outlined above. The sidewalk on the north side of Hillsborough Street is a construction zone, and that brings the risk of injury to anyone not related to the construction work. Please use the recently completed sidewalks on the south side of the street.
Closing Brooks Avenue at this location will enable the contractor to complete multiple operations in a timely and efficient way, minimizing the amount of time area businesses and NC State are impacted.
Bagwell Avenue remains closed to traffic at the Hillsborough Street intersection. The contractor is scheduled to circle back and install the storm drains on Bagwell Avenue once the storm drain work is complete
