March Madness 2024
During the spring of 2024, NC State Men's & Women's Basketball both went on tremendous runs through the NCAA tournament straight to the Final Fours.
This past spring, NC State Athletics had an unparalleled amount of success with their Men’s and Women’s basketball programs that had sparked Raleigh into a frenzy of pride and excitement. These programs brought the community together on Hillsborough Street multiple times over the past couple of months, which in turn boosted local businesses in the process.
This report highlights the economic impact of those events on Hillsborough Street by looking at data involving visitors on key dates as well as food & beverage sales over March and April.
The impact of NC State’s basketball programs on Hillsborough Street:
- Record monthly food and beverage sales by around $850,000
- Tens of thousands of daily visitors on game days and related events.
- Belltower was utilized as a meeting spot to celebrate the victory, take pictures, and meet the team
- Sections of the street were used for watch parties, which helped neighboring businesses and restaurants.
